The newly built St. George Forane Church is the largest church in South India. It is situated at Angamaly – where the histories of Christian Beliefs are engraved in golden letters. The Church will be blessed by His Grace Mar Varkey Vithayathil on December 31st, 2006 and will be open to the believers. The public meeting following the blessing ceremony will be inaugurated by Hon. Kerala Governor Sri. R.L.Bhattiah.

The old church was renovated to the present stage by the hard labour of the Vicar, Very.Rev. Fr. Paul Kariatty and by the heartfelt financial assistance from the faithfuls of Angamaly.
The Church covers an area of 24000 sq. ft. Below the Church, is situated the 16000 sq. ft. Main Parish Hall and above which two mini Parish Halls, each covering about 3500 sq. ft. is located.

A three storeyed Parsonage of 18000 sq. ft is constructed near the Church, of which two were blessed by Mar Sebastian Edayanthrath auxilary Bishop of the Ernakulam Angamaly Arch Diocese.

The Church is so built that; it compromises with Angamaly’s ancient pride, glory, beliefs, and history, with fine modern architecture and can accommodate 8000 people at a stretch. The dome of the Church is at about 185 ft from the floor. The 6000 sq ft outer surface of the dome is decorated with Italian Ken Tiles. The dome is mounted with a globe weighing 750 kg and a stainless steel Cross weighing 450 kg. The 16 windows surrounding the dome is decorated with the portraits of the Apostles, and the 64 windows surrounding the Church is imprinted with the Holy Men and incidents of the New and the Old Testaments, on Belgium glass.

The Altar covers 2000 sq. ft. and is furnished with statues of Holy Men in dazzling crystal and in metal. A 24 feet high statue of “The Crucified Christ” is also there in the Altar. At a time 50 priests can celebrate the Holy Mass in the Altar. The walls of the Church are made using about 3 lakhs Salem Pink Granite. The Church floors are decorated with imported R.A.K ceramic vitrified tiles.

The frontal of the church is 145 feet high. In between the Bell Towers of 100 feet, the complete statue of St. George is constructed. The Crosses above the Dome and the Bell Towers are mounted with Neon lighting. For processions around the Church a concrete footpath is made. The footpath is bordered with iron grills with Neon light facility.

The foundation stone of the newly built St. George Forane Church was laid by Cardinal Mar Varkey Cardinal Vithayathil on November 16th 1997. The renovation works began in 1998 March. The work was completed in 8 years.

The renovation of the Church was held under the leadership and supervision of the famous church builder and architect of India, Mr. Chowrappa,Bangalore and structural consultancy service headed by Nagendra Sterling Consultancy,Bangalore.The Presbytory designed by Mr.George Vattoly Associates,Angamaly.
